01 / Campaign Update!
There is a lot of information circulating (some of it accurate, some of it not) about the situation at the CCA, Glasgow.
This is an explainer of the basic facts, and what we do and don’t know, broken down into different topics.
02 / Background Info
The Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Glasgow went in to voluntary liquidation on
30 January 2026.
Little is publicly known about how this decision was reached – Freedom of Information (FOI) requests have been submitted.
03 / The CCA Building
The CCA building at 350 Sauchiehall Street is owned by Creative Scotland (CS) and was being leased to the CCA.
CS are trying to sell or re-lease the building, but very little has currently been shared about how they will do this.
04 / The CCA Building
People or organisations who are interested in buying or leasing the building can submit an ‘Expression of Interest’.
No information has been shared about what format these expressions might take, or how they will be evaluated.
05 / The CCA Building
This campaign’s main demand is that this sale/re-lease of the building should be stopped, by the Scottish Government.
So far, Màiri McAllan, Culture Secretary, has not made any public statements about this.
06 / The CCA Building
This campaign asks people to sign our petition and write to Creative Scotland and the Culture Secretary, demanding a pause in the process to allow proper engagement towards the CCA remaining a public multidisciplinary arts space → saveourcca.com
07 / The CCA Building
The CCA building, which is the product of huge artistic endeavour and public investment, must remain in public hands.
We don’t know how the decision to sell/re-lease was reached, or what the process involves, but have made FOI requests.
08 / The Building Contents
The contents of the building is divided in to two categories of assets:
– Equipment and Fittings
– The CCA Archive
Liquidators have been appointed to sell CCA assets, in order to repay outstanding CCA debts.
09 / The Building Contents
The equipment and fittings were sold by auction on 30 July 2026. This included projection and AV kit, and more.
We don’t know who has bought this, though there were some people trying to bid for it to keep it in use for the community.
10 / The CCA Archive
The CCA Archive has also been listed for sale by the liquidators. The deadline for expressions of interest is 14 August 2026.
It has been listed for sale through ‘Private Treaty’, though it is unclear what this process would involve.
11 / The CCA Archive
The Scottish Government say they have received ‘concrete assurances’ from CS of a ‘secure future’ for the Archive.
It is unclear how this process will work, and what this would mean for the future of the Archive as an open resource.
12 / The CCA Archive
It’s important that we keep campaigning about both the future of the CCA building at 350 Sauchiehall Street, and the safe future of the CCA Archive – a record of over 50 years of artistic and cultural activity.
Both are public assets!
